Karnataka State government has launched the Free Laptop Scheme Karnataka named as “Laptop Bhagya scheme”. The Karnataka Social Welfare Department has decided to provide free laptops for students. Over 36,000 Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students studying in professional courses will get laptops from the Karnataka government under the Free Laptop Bhagya scheme. This Free Laptop Scheme for SC/ST is a great initiative from the state government Karnataka.
It is estimated that Rs. 112 crore is allocated for this Laptop Bhagya Scheme and pointed out that each student will get a laptop, which will cost Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 35,000. These Free laptops will be provided to the students are doing professional courses and belongs to SC/ST category. This is a good sign from the state government towards the bright students and we appreciate this step. Karnataka Government has also launched such Laptop Bhagya – Free Laptop Scheme in Karnataka. Announcement regarding this scheme was done at the budget 2017-18.

Eligibility Details for Laptop Bhagya Scheme:
Free laptops will be given only to students whose annual family income lies with in the Laptop Bhagya scheme.
Students from SC/ST must have passed 12th class in 2017 and now should be in the first year of their course.
Eligible courses under the Karnataka Free Laptop scheme:
- Post graduate courses
- Engineering
- Study in First Grade Colleges
- Polytechnic colleges
- Medical studies
Currently, Bangalore University is already running such a scheme where SC/ST students pursuing post graduation are given free laptops, however they has to return the laptops after the completion of the course. In the Laptop Bhagya scheme, laptops will not be taken back from the students after they complete their studies, laptops will be their own asset forever.
The scheme will definitely bring smiles to such SC/ST students who are not able to afford laptops due to their poor financial condition.
How to Apply| Karnataka Free Laptop Scheme|
- First make sure you are eligible.
- You can visit the Official website and look for the section Laptop Bhagya & Apply. Or
- Download the application form from the link provided at the end of the article.
- Take out a printout
- Fill in the application form carefully and attach a passport size photograph
- Attach all the required documents such as:
- Caste certificate
- 10th and 12th certificate and
- Income certificate along with the form.
